    June 11, 2005

Twelve Loose Cannons Returned From the Grip of the Mojave SAN LUIS OBISPO – Twelve “Loose Cannons” shot into the desert this past weekend as part of the annual Mojave Death Race. Members of the Cannon Associates’ “Loose Cannons” team ran and road over 280 miles through the Mojave Desert and placed 2nd in the corporate division and 10th overall. Also braving the elements were 20 fellow employees, family and friends who provided moral and nutritional support throughout the 24-hour race.

For the past three years, the Loose Cannons have been participating in the Mojave Death Race, which begins and ends in Primm, Nevada. The 280-mile race is a relay with 21 legs ranging in distance from 6 miles to 42 miles of either running or cycling. Teams of twelve not only brave temperature extremes ranging from 30° to 120°, they also run or ride through soft desert sand, hard packed dirt, rocks, gravel, and weathered asphalt.

“I can’t even begin to say how proud I am to work with such a determined group of individuals,” said Mike Cannon, president of Cannon Associates and member of the Loose Cannons. “The teamwork and camaraderie shown throughout the race and the weekend was phenomenal. We’re already talking about next year.”

“In order to complete a race like this, we need an extensive support team,” Cannon adds. “We rely on our support system at the race, and those back home on race weekend. Without our sponsors, we’d never make it into the desert and back,” he concludes. The Loose Cannons were sponsored by Arts Cyclery, Blazing Blenders, Commworld of Bakersfield, Copeland Sports, Cowboy Cookie N’ Grub, Grant Construction, JCarroll, Magic Wireless, MG Sports Supplements, Nielsen Benefits Group, Scarab Graphics Solutions, Total Financial Solutions, Wallace & Smith, and Web Eclectics.
